Review Creative Labs MuVo 64MB USB Memory and MP3 Player / Creative Labs 7300000000007:Combining a high quality 64 MB MP3 player with a compact mass storage device, Creative Labs has created MuVo-a logical step in hybrid portable devices. MuVo is a compact (about the size of a cigarette lighter) and lightweight 64 MB MP3 player that is also a USB storage device. You can store whatever you like on the device whether its images, Web pages, documents or even MP3 files. The MuVo looks at the data stored on the device and will play any MP3 files stored in the root directory. However, it won't play MP3 files stored in any folders on the device. Installation is a breeze-simply plug the MuVo into a spare USB port and the PC recognises it as a mass storage device. No drivers are needed, although the unit does ship with some Windows 98 drivers and a special formatting tool. Transferring files to the unit is as simple as the installation; you drag and drop files onto the device. Once you've transferred any data or MP3 files, remove it from your computer and slide it onto the battery pack. From one "AAA" type battery you can enjoy up to 12 hours of digital music. [+]MP3 playback although quite basic is high quality-just what you'd expect from Creative Labs. You have basic control over MP3 playback, which is enough for anyone not wanting stacks of features and options. One problem is that because the unit doesn't ship with a cradle or USB port extension cable, you have to go round the back of the PC every time you want to insert or remove the device. This isn't a problem if you have a USB hub or are using the MuVo on a laptop. Although slightly more expensive than a mass storage device of comparable size, the MuVo is ideal for those wanting MP3 playback in a compact device as well as having the ability to use it as a portable storage media. -Martin Snelling.
