Review Logitech KeyCase Keyboard for Palm PDA Handhelds / Logitech:PDAs can be a bit of a compromise. They are great devices for carrying lots of information around, but when it comes to data entry they can let you down. In the case of Palm PDAs, the Graffiti handwriting recognition software is OK for jotting down the odd address, making an appointment or taking a note but people tend to find it a bit slow for entering larger amounts of text. The only alternative is an external keyboard. Logitech, known for PC mice and keyboards has come up with a couple of options for Palm owners, and the KeyCase is definitely the most innovative. It is made of a soft material, and when not in use you wrap it around your Palm and it doubles as a protective case, held in place by an elastic strap. Undo the strap, roll out the material, and insert the Palm into the plastic holder that sits up at an angle on a very neatly designed bracket, and you are ready to type. The holder sports the Palm Universal Connector - so it is compatible with the m5xx series and the m1xx series Palms. But does a soft keyboard really work - and how robust is it? Well, in answer to the first question, entering text is certainly faster than working with Graffiti, but the keyboard is nowhere near responsive enough for fast touch typing. Help is provided in the many shortcut keys that take you straight to Palm applications. [+]As for its robustness, ours has survived glasses of water spilt on it-in the interests of research, of course-and quite a few wrapping and unwrapping exercises. The KeyCase probably isn't the keyboard to choose if you want to do serious typing on your Palm, and you do need a flat surface on which to unroll it, but as a combination protector and faster-than-graffiti data entry system it is a pretty good choice, and it is amazing that pressing the slightly raised areas that represent each key actually results in letters appearing on the screen. -Sandra Vogel.
